A little bit about myself and Dead Beat...
I think like a lot of us I always had at the back of my mind that I'd write a novel one day, but life had a way of getting in the way ...or laziness! I did regularly write short stories in my early twenties, but never tried to have them published. Eventually I joined the police, got married and started a family. At 34 years old I finally sat down with a cheap laptop and got on with it. The end result 6 months later was Dead Beat; a tale of a rural police officer who suddenly finds himself flung head long into a zombie apocalypse. It was great fun to write, and I hope you will all enjoy reading it soon.
DEAD BEAT
Haven, Population: 2000.
A place where Johnny sleepwalks the beat, counting down the hours to the end of another police shift. Burying the secret deeper.
But this is the day the world ends. The infection has spread unchecked, and now the dead have domain. Johnny is thrown into a fight to survive. The shattered community around him willing to do anything to stay alive.
But as putrefacted bodies close in, it's the villager's rotten hearts he begins to fear the most ...And beyond them the puppetmasters who started it all.

It's like the author went screaming through the zombie genre with a baton in one hand and a blowtorch in the other. Check this one out. You won't be disappointed."
Dead Beat has a pace that is swift and with volatility that does not allow the reader any complacency... an excellent story and ghoulishly pleasurable.
I have to say that this book is at the top of my favorite first time novels... . The plot is a fantastic idea, and as I continued it felt like I was reading something out of a Stephen King novel.
This is zombie novel on a par with David Moody. It is fast paced, engaging and will repulse and disturb you like a good horror should.
"Heartbeat versus Dawn of the Dead! Porter has delivered a barn-storming horror debut where the flesh-eating, walking dead aren't necessarily the worst monsters you could meet. Fantastic stuff."
"Reminiscent of the early style of James Herbert; this book doesn't pull any punches or release its teeth. There's everything in this book. Extreme violence, terror, horror and gore...It certainly leaves you hungry for more."
